Owned by the entrepreneurs behind Sahani Kitchen

Volume Restaurant & Bar is owned and operated by Collins Ngure and David Kimani, known as the “Sahani Brothers.” Collins and David operate several ventures in The Magic City, including Sahani Kitchen—a food-truck-turned-restaurant specializing in authentic Nairobi cuisine and located at 2520 4th Ave S, Birmingham, AL 35233.

After the closure of EDEN Lounge—another of the brothers’ ventures—earlier this year, Collins and David began looking for a location for their new restaurant and bar concept. Eventually, they found the perfect fit at 2024 Green Springs Hwy, Birmingham, AL 35205—the former home to Zanzibar International Bar & Grill, which closed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Over the past few months, the Sahani Brothers have been remodeling and retrofitting the former Zanzibar Grill space for their new establishment—Volume Restaurant & Bar.

“We chose ‘Volume’ because we wanted this place to have a name that speaks for itself. Whether its service, food and drink or even the music, we want everything to have volume. Fitting the ‘Volume’ theme, we’ve decorated the space with hit records from artists like Aretha Franklin and Marvin Gaye.”

As a restaurant, Volume will offer a variety of mouthwatering Creole seafood dishes, including:

  • Creole Shrimp Alfredo — Fehttuchini pasta with fresh shrimp, onions, mushroom, tomatoes and Alfredo.
  • Creole Chicken Alfredo — Fehttuchini pasta with chicken, red onions, mushroom, tomatoes and Alfredo.
  • Lobster Mac — 6oz Lobster tail served with a side of Mac and cheese.
  • Steak and Potatoes — 10oz ribeye steak served with garlic roasted potatoes or house mashed potatoes.
  • Surf & Turf — 10oz ribeye topped with a 6oz lobster served with your choice of two sides.
  • Fish & Chips — Fried fish served with fries and a house sauce.

In addition to these entrees, Volume will serve starters, salads and sides and will have a special brunch menu on weekends. When it comes to drinks, the restaurant & bar will offer a variety of wine, beer and classic cocktails like an Old Fashioned, French 75, Espresso Martinis and many more.

“We have four daiquiri machines and a bunch of flavors, including piña colada, strawberry, green apple, mango and more. Those will be perfect for anyone who wants to kick back, relax and sip on a refreshing daiquiri on a weekend.”

Collins and David are currently putting the final touches on the main area—just in time for their grand opening in early October. However, the brothers have plans to open a private events space and back patio in the future.

Volume Restaurant & Bar will be able to accommodate up to 110 patrons and will have plenty of parking behind the building as well as valet service.
