HE RECEIVED A PROCESSION WORTHY OF A HERO WHO RISKED HIS LIFE DAY IN AND DAY OUT. AND AS WE KNOW, CIRCUMSTANCES LIKE THIS, AND ESPECIALLY FOR TODAY, PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER THE SOUTHEAST COMING TOGETHER FROM GEORGIA TO LOUISIANA TO SHOW THE SUPPORT FOR THEIR BROTHERHOOD, JUST PAUSING TO TO HONOR AND TO REMEMBER AND TO JUST JUST HONOR THE SACRIFICE THAT HE MADE. HE WAS LAID TO REST IN TUSCALOOSA COUNTY. THIS WAS JUST A SHORT TIME AGO. I WAS A SERVICE THAT A NUMBER OF FOLKS ATTENDED, ONE TO GET US WVTM 13 AT LISA CRANE. SHE IS STANDING BY WITH MUCH MORE ON THAT. THAT GRAVESIDE SERVICE THAT HAPPENED JUST A SHORT TIME BACK. YEAH, SO MANY PEOPLE HERE JUST A SHORT TIME AGO FOR THOSE GRAVESIDE SERVICES AND MANY WERE LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS FROM ALL OVER THE SOUTHEAST WHO HAD NEVER MET OFFICER GARRETT CRUMLEY. NOW, ONE OF THE THINGS WE LEARNED ABOUT GARRETT TODAY FROM ALL THE PEOPLE WHO SPOKE WAS HIS PASSION FOR HIS JOB AND HIS COMMITMENT TO SERVE OTHERS. THE CHURCH WAS FULL OF FELLOW POLICE OFFICERS AND EMERGENCY RESPONDERS WHO JOINED FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO SAY GOODBYE TO GARRETT CROMBIE. GARRETT. WE KNEW YOU WERE ALWAYS ON LOAN TO US FROM GOD, BUT WE WISH YOU WERE STILL HERE FOR A LITTLE BIT LONGER. Fallen Officer Garrett Crumby was laid to rest on Monday. The Tuscaloosa native was shot and killed last week in Huntsville. Officers remember the fateful call that went out and their reaction to help their fallen brother. Sgt. DeQuan Hyter with the Huntsville Police Department said, “Garrett, you would be proud to know your guys didn’t hesitate one second to pull you to safety.” The procession for Officer Crumby stretched from Huntsville to Tuscaloosa. He received a procession worthy of a hero, who risked his life day in and day out. He was laid to rest in Tuscaloosa County. That’s where more than a hundred people gathered. Many were law enforcement officers from around the Southeast who had never met Crumby.One thing several of the speakers mentioned about Crumby was his passion for his job and his commitment to serving others. Mayfair Church of Christ in Huntsville was full of fellow police officers and emergency responders who joined family and friends to say goodbye to Garrett Crumby. Courtney Crumby, one of Garrett’s three sisters, said even at a young age, he wanted to help people. At that time, he dressed up as Batman. Courtney said, “Garrett, we knew you were always on loan to us from God, but we wish you were still here for a little bit longer. You truly showed us all how to be better humans, and you will always be our batman, and most of all, you'll always be our bubba.”Before his three years with the Huntsville PD, Crumby served seven years with the Tuscaloosa Police Department. Huntsville police Chief Kirk Giles said, “The murder of Officer Crumby and the critical wounding of Officer Morin shook the foundation of our city, our community, and our department. It has created doubt and fear among all of us, but we mourn, we vow never to forget, and we move forward.”His co-workers say Garrett loved being an officer. It was his passion. Hyter, fighting back tears, said, “It’s time to take your last ride, Charlie 3-11. Everyone is here to salute you, our hero, until we meet again, brother. We will always have your six.
