A boy born in California with an extremely rare life-threatening disease turned 5 years old on Wednesday.JT Borofka was one of only 60 people diagnosed with Triosephosphate Isomerase Deficiency (TPI) when he was born in 2018. TPI is a multisystem disorder that causes complications that leads to respiratory issues and heart failure.He was diagnosed when he was six months old after a pediatrician detected low iron and oxygen levels in JT's blood. At the time, JT was given two to five years to live.On Wednesday, JT defied those initial estimates by turning 5 years old.His parents shared this photo with sister station KSBW of JT from their new home in Lavon, Texas. In honor of the milestone, Jason Borofka, JT's dad, said, "Doctors said that JT would never make it to 5 years, and he is proving to the world that miracles are happening."To celebrate the landmark birthday, the Make-A-Wish Foundation is hosting a fish-themed party on Sunday.
