The band director at Minor High School was arrested Thursday night following an altercation with Birmingham police officers.Following Minor's matchup with the Jackson-Olin Mustangs, officers were in the process of clearing the stadium when they noticed that both schools’ bands were still playing, according to the Birmingham Police Department.Police asked both bands to stop playing and pack it up; Jackson-Olin reportedly complied while Minor's band director Johnny Mims refused, instructing his students to play on.Follow us on social: Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | YouTubePolice say when Mims continued to refuse their request, officers decided to place him in custody, at which point a physical altercation ensued.Police say Mims refused to place his hands behind his back and allegedly pushed an officer who subsequently deployed a stun gun on him before taking him into custody.Mims was taken to UAB Hospital and then Birmingham City Jail where he was charged with disorderly conduct, harassment and resisting arrest.WVTM 13 On The Go: Download our app for free“We are aware of the incident that occurred after the Minor and Jackson-Olin football game," said BCS Superintendent Dr. Walter Gonsoulin. "I am in the process of gathering all the facts, and feel it would be inappropriate to comment further until that process is complete. I urge everyone not to jump to conclusions.”

Police say when Mims continued to refuse their request, officers decided to place him in custody, at which point a physical altercation ensued.
