Joey Chestnut wins first World Burrito Eating Championship

To celebrate National Burrito Day on April 6, Qdoba hosted the first World Burrito Eating Championship in Milwaukee.The competition took place in front of a crowd of hundreds and 10 competitive eaters from around the country went head to head, scarfing down dozens of burritos in minutes.The competitors included a record-holding legend, Joey Chestnut, and he didn't disappoint. He finished in first place, eating 14.5 burritos in 10 minutes in a come-from-behind win.He said his strategy is to try and remain calm."Even though I'm naturally really excited and nervous, I gotta stay calm. I wasn't very calm in the beginning, so I was a little slow, but I eventually calmed down," Chestnut said.Chestnut lost a cheese curd eating contest at the Wisconsin State Fair in 2018 but was able to leave Wisconsin with a victory this time around. "I think I've actually lost three times in Wisconsin. This will be my first Wisconsin win," he said.He said the excitement and energy from the fans keeps him going."It's something I love," he said. "I love these contests. I love coming out and eating like a madman."
