Homewood's library gets grant to preserve history

The Homewood Public Library has received a $15,000 grant to preserve and digitize a historical collection.According to a news release, the library has hired an archivist to scan, preserve and create training materials for the staff.Among the items set for preservation are a scrapbook from Hall-Kent Elementary dated 1933-1934, and a city of Homewood publication from 1944."We are looking forward to inviting the community to share their historic Homewood photos and documents with the library so that they can be digitized and preserved for all to enjoy. We hope the grant project will get us into a better position to house Homewood's historical collections, protect them, and make them available to the community," said Judith Wright, Homewood Public Library Director.The library is also working this Preservation Week, starting April 30, to make historical collections available online.
