Pinson Valley is hitting the road for High School Huddle's Game of the Week, but they're not traveling far.On Friday night, the Indians are set to take on the Clay-Chalkville Cougars, just 6 miles away, in a rivalry that's relatively new, but one that earns the winner bragging rights over the entire Pinson community.So far, Clay-Chalkville has been the top dog, or top cougar, in the rivalry, edging out the Indians with a 12-7 series record.The latest: Sports coverage from WVTM 13 NewsThe team enters the matchup 3-0 for the 2023 season, a solid start as they chase a third straight region championship.Head Coach Drew Gilmer actually played for Pinson Valley in high school, so his connection to the rivalry is a personal one."I graduated from Pinson; I played there, all that," Gilmer said. "So it cuts deep. And we got several coaches that coached over there at Pinson and so again, these kids grew up playing with each other. And so, again, it's a great rivalry."Pinson Valley head coach Gentrell Eatman also understands the importance of the rivalry, despite this being his first season with the team."It's kind of like the Alabama-Auburn game," Eatman said. "That's the first thing that was told to me when you're going into this game.
