STORMS SO YOU’LL KNOW FIRST. THIS IS WVTM 13 WEATHER. NOW WVTM 13 LIVE DOPPLER. THERE’S NO SIGNIFICANT RAIN AROUND, BUT THERE STILL ARE SOME SPRINKLES UP HERE IN MARION COUNTY AND INTO FRANKLIN COUNTY IN NORTHWEST ALABAMA. AT BACK OF YOU OUT TO FIND THAT NEXT ROUND IN THERE ARE SOME PRETTY HEFTY THUNDERSTORMS IN LOUISIANA AND TEXAS. AND THOSE ARE MOVING THIS DIRECTION. SO MUCH SO THAT I THINK EARLY IN THE MORNING WE MAY BE AWAKENED TO THE SOUND OF THUNDER YET AGAIN ACROSS NORTHWEST ALABAMA. SO LATE TONIGHT, THROUGH THE FIRST PART OF TOMORROW MORNING, SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS AND IT IS WARM OUT THERE RIGHT NOW WHERE IT HAS IT RAINED TODAY AND IT’S GOING TO STAY WARM OVERNIGHT. TEMPERATURES IN THE MID SIXTIES TO START THE DAY IN THE MID TO UPPER SEVENTIES ON THURSDAY AFTERNOON. AND SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS, THEY’LL BE HERE AND THERE THROUGHOUT THE DAY. BUT WE DON’T EXPECT IT TO JUST BE RAINING THE ENTIRE DAY THROUGH AND THE FARTHER SOUTHEAST FROM BIRMINGHAM YOU GO, THE LESS LIKELY IT IS THAT YOU’RE GOING TO FIND ANY RAIN AT ALL. LIGHT SOUTH WIND OVERNIGHT JEFFERSON COUNTY THROUGH TUSCALOOSA COUNTY, STAYING VERY WARM AND STICKY. BUT THE THUNDERSTORMS THAT WE HAD TO THE NORTHWEST HAVE LAID DOWN SOME RAIN COOLED AIR AROUND HAMILTON AND CULLMAN. THAT’S A PRETTY GOOD WIND. GUSTS COME THROUGH THE CULLMAN AREA EARLIER BLUNT COUNTY, MARSHALL COUNTY. AND NOW THAT THOSE STORMS ARE PAST US, WE’RE JUST DEALING WITH A LITTLE BIT OF LIGHT RAIN HERE AND THERE. BUT WATCH HOW THE THUNDERSTORMS START TO REDEVELOP THROUGH EARLY TOMORROW MORNING. THIS IS 3 A.M. AND AS WE LOOK AT THUNDER STORM FUEL, THERE’S NOT THAT MUCH OF IT. THIS IS THE ENERGY THAT’S AVAILABLE TO GET STORMS GOING WHERE WE SEE THE ACTION ON RADAR. THERE’S JUST NOT THAT MUCH. THE RAIN COOLED AIR REALLY CAPPING A LOT OF THAT OFF. SO I DON’T EXPECT ANY SEVERE WEATHER OVERNIGHT. BUT THROUGH THE MORNING HOURS, WATCH THE STORMS GETTING CLOSER TO HAMILTON YET AGAIN. THEY’LL FIZZLE OUT. AND JUST LIKE THOSE THAT WE’VE HAD TONIGHT, SOME RAIN COOLED AIR EXPANDS IN AND THAT MAY KNOCK THE TEMPERATURE DOWN A BIT IN BIRMINGHAM THROUGH TOMORROW AFTERNOON. BUT WE SEE HARDLY A DROP OF RAIN IN ST CLAIR OR CALHOUN AT A WATCH CHEROKEE, WHEREAS MOST OF IT IS STILL WELL NORTHWEST OF BIRMINGHAM, EVEN THROUGH TOMORROW AFTERNOON. AND TOMORROW EVENING. HERE’S THE SEVEN DAY FORECAST. WE GET TO 78 TOMORROW, SOME LOCALLY HEAVY STORMS NORTHWEST OF BIRMINGHAM. AGAIN, IT’LL BE IN THE EIGHTIES TO THE SOUTH OF BIRMINGHAM, SOME SIXTIES TO THE NORTHWEST. THEN ON GOOD FRIDAY, RAIN BECOMES A BIT MORE WIDESPREAD. WE’LL SEE ON AGAIN, OFF AGAIN SHOWERS THROUGHOUT THE DAY. AND NOTICE WHERE IT JUST SITS RIGHT HERE AROUND JEFFERSON, SHELBY, NORTHWARD UP TOWARD CULLMAN AND THEN INTO WALKER COUNTIES, EVEN THROUGH SATURDAY. A GOOD CHANCE OF SOME SOAKING RAIN, I THINK ABOUT 1 TO 2 INCHES OF RAIN POSSIBLE THERE. FINALLY, ON EASTER SUNDAY, JUST IN TIME FOR SUNRISE SERVICES AND OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES, WE WILL START DRYING OUT, BUT IT STAYS CLOUDY AND COOL AND DAMP WITH HIGHS IN THE SIXTIES. LOT OF STUFF GOING ON. BIRMINGHAM SOUTHERN TOUGH SITUAT

Impact Day: storms likely in northwestern Alabama through Thursday morning

Strong storms move into Alabama Wednesday evening through early Thursday morning, and more rainy, stormy weather develops through Friday and Saturday. Check the video forecast for the latest.IMPACT WEATHER THROUGH THURSDAY MORNING ⚠️ WHAT TO EXPECT ⚠️ TIMING: Through 6 AM Thursday WHERE? Most of the strong storms occur northwest of the Birmingham area through early Thursday morning: Hamilton, Haleyville, Addison, Jasper, Fayette, Cullman, Decatur, Athens, Huntsville and The Shoals. THREATS: Wind gusts over 60 mph and hail to the size of a quarter or larger with the most intense storms. Locally-heavy rain in narrow bands over northwestern Alabama may add up to more than 2 inches by sunrise Thursday leading to some flash flooding. Frequent lightning also likely. Temperatures come down from near-record levels in the afternoon to a warm, humid night with occasional showers and storms: lows tonight in the 60s. While most of the storms remain northwest of Jefferson, Shelby, Tuscaloosa and St. Clair Counties, some scattered showers or even a brief storm could develop through the night into early Thursday. The stronger storms fade by midday Thursday, and then we just deal with occasional showers and a few isolated thunderstorms through the afternoon and evening as a weak cool front slides south across the state. Birmingham’s best chance of heavier rain from some scattered storms comes around 1 PM to 6 PM; however, storms will be spotty leaving some with heavy downpours and others with nothing but a cloudy sky and a breeze. SHOWERS THROUGH EASTER SUNDAY? A persistent pattern producing on-again, off-again showers sets up for Good Friday and Saturday over much of Alabama. Clouds, a north breeze, and occasional rain keeps it cool, too! Expect daytime highs in the 60s Friday, and most of us will have a hard time getting over 60 degrees Saturday afternoon as the showers keep on coming. Total rainfall through Saturday evening looks to be around one-half to one inch for most of Central Alabama; a few locally-higher amounts are possible mainly northwest of the Birmingham area. The steady rain tapers off Saturday evening, and Easter Sunday looks drier except for a limited chance of a few light showers. It stays cloudy and cool all day: highs in the mid-60s. A cool air ‘wedge’ sets up for the weekend and early part of next week, and that means more cooler-than-normal weather through at least Tuesday. At this point, we see nothing ‘cold’ coming soon, so it appears safe to go ahead with springtime gardening as no more frosts or freezes are expected.
