With the support of Xplosion Technology, Greens is the creation of founders Kehlin Swain, Isis Ashford and Jaylen James, PhD. The founders credit the foundation laid by gener8torProsper and supportive community partners like Redhawk for the making the move to Birmingham a success.

After completing Prosper’s 12-week HealthTech Accelerator, Greens now calls Birmingham their business home. Who could blame them?

In a press release, Prosper’s HealthTech Accelerator Managing Director spoke about the significance of bringing Greens to The Magic City.

“We are thrilled to have Greens in Birmingham. Their success is a testament to our ecosystem’s unique value proposition: the ability to swiftly navigate founders past industry red tape and get directly to key decision-makers.

This competitive advantage has not only fast-tracked Greens‘ success but also reinforced Birmingham as an emerging powerhouse in healthcare innovation.”

How does Greens work?

After a family member was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, the founders of Greens started an app that offers culturally-focused meal predictions for teens with diabetes to help make maintenance and treatment easier for them and their families.

Greens uses technology with real-time photos of foods to assist in carbohydrate calculation and food experiment.

It also builds a “library” of commonly eaten foods meals to inform future bolus strategy making mealtime less of a mystery and helping people better manage.

Thanks to their connections, Greens has built relationships with supportive ecosystems such as:

How you can help

Greens has pivoted their focus to intentionally include serving people on Medicaid and other marginalized populations in an effort to address determinants to health and barriers like transportation, lack of childcare and more.

As they continue to grow, Greens is seeking community support through the following:

  • Community members on public insurance
  • Employers offering insurance but desiring to help close the gap for employees
  • National + local incentive programs with Managed Care Organizations (MCO)
  • People needing help with Type 1, Type 2 + Gestational diabetes

“The community surrounding the population truly does care about the people and they are also so excited to share the history and the vision for what’s next. Being part of a mission-driven city like Birmingham has been amazing.”

Kehlin Swain, co-founder, Greens
