Five Points West neighbors concerned after attempted murder suspect crashes into bank in deputy chase

Deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said a chase between them and a pickup truck ended with that truck crashing into a bank drive-through on Bessemer Road.The ATMs at the Wells Fargo on the busy street corner get a lot of traffic. Many people couldn't help but ask questions about what happened and how the bank was damaged, but even more were concerned about crime affecting their community.“I came down to get my money to put in church in the morning, and I see it all roped off.” Dwight Daniel, a Five Points West resident, said. “I'm just surprised to see it here. I grew up around here and I see what's going on in the neighborhood.”Follow us on social: Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | YouTube According to the sheriff's office, 18-year-old Isiah Coleman was arrested early Saturday morning after neighbors in McCalla reported him and two others breaking into cars. “I'm not trying to see any of our Black people in jail, but at the same time, you have to be accountable for your actions,” Jacqueline Williams, who lives in Five Points West, said.The F-150 pickup truck Coleman was driving crashed into the bank causing some damage.“It's just ridiculous that they don't take their time,” Jureline Hinton, who lives in Five Points West, said. You have to respect yourself and other people, too, and they don't never respect other people.”WVTM 13 On The Go: Download our app for freeMany in the area want to see young people make better decisions.“We got away from taking care of our children and our children doing all kinds of things,” Daniel said. “I know when I was 18 — even when I was 18 — my mom had to know where I was.And even though the crime didn't happen in the Five Points West area, some residents are worried about the impact it could have on the community they love.“We live here,” Williams said. “And you know what? I'm not going anywhere, but I'm going to continue to fight to make our community better.”While police were investigating, they found Coleman had a warrant for his arrest for attempted murder from a shooting earlier this month. He was taken to Jefferson County jail with a $108,000 bond.
