Family held at gunpoint, man stabbed during Helena road rage incident

The Helena Police Department is investigating a road rage incident after a family was held at gunpoint and forced to fight off a violent attack.Around 6:30 p.m., a man walked into the Helena Fire Department's Station #3 suffering from multiple stab wounds in his right arm, according to the Helena Police Department. He was immediately taken to UAB Hospital for treatment.Around the same time, Helena police were called to the Laurel Lakes neighborhood off of South Shades Crest Road to speak to a husband and wife who said they had been involved in a road rage incident.Stay up-to-date: The latest headlines and weather from WVTM 13 According to the couple, they had been delivering food for DoorDash with their child in the car when a vehicle began aggressively tailgating them on Highway 52. The woman driving the vehicle reportedly pulled up next to the couple in the Long Leaf Lakes subdivision and began screaming obscenities, accusing the couple of not using their blinker.A man driving a golf cart then arrived at the scene, at which point the woman pulled out a handgun and aimed it at the couple. The man driving the golf cart then took the gun from the woman and also pointed it at the couple.The couple immediately put their car in reverse, but due to an engine issue, they could not go any faster than a few miles per hour.WVTM 13 On The Go: Download our app for freeThe driver of the golf cart continued to follow the couple and eventually caught up, reaching inside the window and assaulting the man inside. He was struck several times on the head and shoulders, and his shirt was ripped off by his attacker.At this point, the man's wife pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed the attacker several times in order to defend her husband.The couple continued driving north on South Shades Crest Road and called 911 once they reached the Laurel Lakes subdivision entrance while their attacker walked to Fire Station #3 for help.Helena police detectives completed their investigation this afternoon and reviewed the case with Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office-Bessemer Division. Criminal charges are now pending.
