Two flight crew members were killed in a helicopter crash in northern Shelby County Sunday evening. A third crew member was rushed to UAB Hospital with injuries.The Shelby County Sheriff's Office said that a Lifesaver medical helicopter crashed near Bear Creek Road (County Road 43) and Mountain Oaks Drive.The helicopter was responding to a hiker in the area who was experiencing breathing problems.The sheriff's office received a call that an aircraft was down. When deputies got there, they assisted those on board the helicopter until medical rescue crews arrived.The names of the victims have not been released.The road is closed in both directions and will likely be closed for an extended period of time. Officials are asking everyone to stay away from that area.The cause of the crash will be investigated by the NTSB.
